When in the 1950's-60's many Danish immigrants, mainly dairymen,(Knudsen Dairy) business and crafts-people, settled in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, a need for Danish social clubs quickly became a necessity, as all the Danes enjoy social affairs, church dances, lunches and Christmas fun. (often times at the same date)
Over time many Danish clubs emerged all over the greater LA and OC area.
Therefore The Danish National Committee of Southern California (DNC) was established as an organization to co-ordinate all the different Danish Club activities, and to occasionally host visiting dignitaries, and sports organizations visiting from Denmark, and lately a birthday lunch with the Royal Danish Guards to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Margrethe's birthday. Also a Danish Picnic in early June is much fun.
The DNC and the member clubs meet about 4 times a year in the Danish Soldiers Hall "The Alamo" just a few miles east of downtown LA.
Joh, we har det hyggeligt når vi Danske og Amerikanere er sammen.
